how it works
A year in Haumm
All you have to do is write.
Everything else on this page is there because you did: the keeping, the looking back, the questions you can ask about your own life. No setup and no tour. Here's a year in Haumm, one moment at a time. Each one plays a little on its own, then it's yours to try. Nothing you do here is saved.
01 — at the desk
It works like the editors you already know.
Headings, lists, tasks, bold, shortcuts. And when you start typing, everything else quietly steps back until you move the mouse again.
Try: # space for a heading · - space for a list · [] space for a task · -- for a dash · ⌘B for bold
Coffee first. Then the thing I've been putting off.
02 — lay out the day
Lay a day out the way it happened.
Tap + for a photo, a voice note, tasks, habits or gratitude, and it lands right where you're writing. A task you won't get to can be let go. It's settled, never failed.
Try: tap +, add a block, then check a task or let go of one.
Red hat, too many berries, and a long talk with the woman who sells honey. A slow, good one.
One of those per day. It's already on this page.
03 — on the road
Capture now. Write it properly later.
On your phone, a voice note turns into words and a photo lands on the day it was taken. Both go straight onto today's page, so there's nothing to file. Later, at the desk, it's all waiting.
Try: tap Voice or Photo.

04 — keep
The lines that matter become art.
Select a line and choose Keep. It lifts off the page and joins your Commonplace, a poster wall of your own words. Don't like the look? Re-roll it.
Try: select a sentence, then Keep. Then re-roll all.
Long day. I almost didn't open this. But every time I skip it, the day turns into a story by morning, and the story is never quite true. Write it down before it turns into a story. That's the whole practice.
05 — bookmarks
Mark the days worth coming back to.
One tap. No folders, no tags, no second document. Bookmarks keeps every page you marked, newest first, so the draft you're still working on is always right there.
Try: tap the bookmark beside a page.

06 — bring your old journals
Your writing life didn't start at sign-up.
Bring in years of Word files, Google Docs, text and Markdown. Haumm finds the dates and splits them into pages, you check every date, and then they settle into their years.
Try: drag a file in, or choose Bring them in.
(Bringing old journals in is part of the paid plan. Free accounts can see the shelf first.)

- 14 Mar 2016The first night in the new apartment
- 2 Jun 2019Letter to Dad I'll probably never send
- 9 Jan 2024What I actually want (draft 1)
(That's it. In Haumm they're in, each one on its own date.)
07 — in your words
Each month comes back in your own words.
On the first of the month, Insights hands last month back: how it began, how it ended, what you kept, the pages you marked. No scores, and no AI writing anything. Just your words, and one small thing noticed.
(There's On this day, too: what you wrote a week, a month, a year ago.)
Try: step back a month with ‹.

08 — ask about your life
A look from the outside, when you ask.
Connect Claude and ask it about your own journal: what keeps coming up, how you've changed, what runs through the pages you've kept. It reads and points you to the entries behind what it notices, with dates. It can't write a word, or change one.
(It reads; you do the thinking. Connect in Settings: always on with the paid plan, 30 days on the free one. 18+.)
Try: pick a question.
