field notes — questions
Short answers
The things people ask before they pull up a page. Anything else — hello@haumm.com.
Why did you make this?
I was writing in Word, one long doc per month. That part worked. But my photos got buried, and when I wanted to find a Rollo May quote I'd written about, I had to dig through a hundred pages and guess the month. Meanwhile my meditations were in one app, my voice notes in another, my habits in a third. I didn't want a productivity system. I wanted one place for my life, where the good stuff doesn't get lost. So I made it.
Is it free right now?
Yes, during early access. After that, your first 60 entries are free (imported entries don't count), then it's $30/year. See pricing.
Why does it cost money?
These days almost anyone can build an app. That doesn't mean everyone should have to. Running one well, keeping it fast, private, backed up, and thought through, takes real time and real money. It makes more sense for one person to do that carefully and for everyone to share the cost.
So that's the deal: $30 a year from you, and from me, no shortcuts. No ads, no selling your data, no features thrown in because they were easy to add.
Can I import old journals?
Yes — .docx files, with formatting, headings, lists, and tables. Google Docs come in via Word export.
Can I export?
Yes — Word, PDF, plain text, or print. Your writing is never locked in.
Is it private?
Yes. Entries and media are visible only to you, and to an AI app if you choose to connect one yourself.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Haumm works in your phone's browser, and you can add it to your home screen.
Does it score me?
No, by design. Insights are descriptive, never judgmental.
Can I hide habits, tasks, or gratitude from Insights?
Yes, in Settings. Each section can be switched off.
Does Haumm use AI?
Not on its own. Haumm won't write for you, prompt you, or tell you how to feel. Your journal is where you do your own thinking.
But if you'd like an outside view of your own life, you can connect Claude or another AI app you already use. It can read and search your journal, so you can ask things like "how have my Augusts changed over the last three years?" It reads. It never writes, edits, or deletes a thing.
What can a connected AI see?
Your entries and their dates, your Commonplace, and your Insights. Not your photos or your settings. You connect it yourself by signing in with your Haumm account, and you can disconnect it anytime in Settings → Connections. We never use your writing to train AI.
What happens after 60 entries, or if I stop paying?
Your writing stays yours. You can still read and export every entry. You just can't add new ones.
